Brooklyn successfully covered the spread last night in Memphis as a 7-point underdog, despite not having Michael Porter Jr. at their disposal. There is a chance MPJ returns tonight in Dallas, it would undoubtedly be a major offensive boost for the visitors in this game. Backing the Nets in road games lately has been a profitable move, they’ve covered in 8 of 11 games. Good things always happen to teams that put in the effort on the defensive end, the Nets are no strangers to doing that ranking 7th in defensive efficiency over the past 15 games.
Speaking of defense the Mavs have had major issues in this area, especially in recent games after losing Anthony Davis to a ligament tear in his finger. The injury forced him to miss the game against his hometown Chicago Bulls over the weekend, without him the Mavs fell pretty easily 125-107 in what was a wire to wire defeat. Rebounding is a major issue for this team, only the Indiana Pacers allow more boards this season at 57.1 per game. In home games that number is much worse at 59.3 per game, the Mavs could be in a lot of trouble here facing a player like Nic Claxton at the center position.
With MPJ returning and the Mavs really struggling without Davis, I am once again leaning towards backing the Nets, just like I did last night in Memphis. They’ve been unlucky with a few of their defeats lately, I think they return the favor and beat Dallas to even the regular season series. Take the Nets.
